EVERYTHING BECOMES MEANINGFUL ‘What does the artist mean with this work? What is he implying? With what and of what is he trying to convince us?’ Anyone who looks at a work of art wants to comprehend it, to explain it, if only to himself. Apparently, this is a human and compelling desire. Based on this, you could conclude that through his work the artist wields a powerful tool: spurring his audience to think, whilst being able to sway these thoughts in whatever direction he chooses. What would happen if he were to refrain from doing the latter? Time for an experiment.
